His father, Brendan Kelly, was a painter and cartoonist and his mother, Tanya, cleaned vacation homes and hotels. Her father inspired her to look at art when she was a teenager.
Azalea, who has been teased for his homemade attire, used to hate school mainly, apart from the art class. He finally dropped out of high school and started working with his mother to raise money to fulfill his dream of moving to the United States.

Iggy Azalea began his musical career working with Backbone, a member of the hip-hop music group 'Dungeon Family' in Atlanta, Georgia. During this time, he met FKi and Natalie Sims, with whom he would collaborate in the future.
In 2011, he released his first full-length mixtape 'Ignorant Art', after moving to Los Angeles the previous year. The music videos of his songs went viral and his album was praised for his aggressiveness.
In 2012, after a brief period as a model, he returned to the music sphere and sought the help of southern rapper T.I. for the release of their debut studio album, 'The New Classic'. However, the album was delayed after Interscope Records, which managed it at that time, objected to the participation of T.I. in the project.
