Vera Farmiga was born in New Jersey in 1973 and began working in television in the late 1990s. Early life
Born on August 6, 1973 in Clifton, New Jersey, Vera Ann Farmiga has developed an important career for herself as an actress, playing a variety of diverse characters. The daughter of Ukrainian parents, Farmiga grew up in a very close community and "went to the Ukrainian Catholic school, was in the Ukrainian Girl Scouts and did Ukrainian folk dances in the Catskills during the summers," she told Interview magazine. In fact, Farmiga did not learn English until she was 5 or 6 years old.

Introduction to acting
Vera Farmiga discovered acting after being temporarily marginalized from playing football. She got a role in a school play, and later opted to pursue her interest in drama at Syracuse University. After college, Farmiga found work in theater productions in New York City. Then he started working in television in the late nineties. In addition to a supporting role in the 1997 film Rose Hill for television, he worked on his first series, Roar, that same year. She acted as a mother fighting a drug addiction, and won a Special Jury Prize at the festival for her work in the film. Shortly after, Farmiga had the opportunity to work with the legendary director Martin Scorsese in The Departed (2006).
