Breakout role in 'The Impossible'
Not long after hanging his dance shoes for Billy Elliot, Holland was chosen to express the character of Sho for the British version of the animated The Secret World of Arrietty (2010). However, it was his performance in The Impossible (2012) that established him firmly as one of the young promising talents in the industry. Based on the truth of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, Holland shone as a teenager who attends to his injured mother (Naomi Watts) while searching for his missing father (Ewan McGregor), earning a series of award nominations.
How old was Holland when he played in 'The Impossible'?
Holland was 13 years old when he proved the role of eldest son.
Spiderman
After a turn in the drama How I Live Now (2013), Holland got a part of support in the historical mini-series of the BBC of 2015, Wolf Hall. Soon after, his path to global stardom began with the announcement that he will assume the role of Peter Parker for the last Spider-Man reboot. Unlike his predecessors Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who were between 20 and 20 years old when they were chosen for Spidey, Holland, 19, was much closer to the high school student of Peter Parker, who became a superhero.
Meanwhile, the Netherlands had other performance obligations to fulfill. The epic "In the Heart of the Sea" (2015) was a box office failure, but it provided another showcase for the emerging star, as well as the opportunity to prove his worth in the midst of difficult shooting conditions.
'Spider-Man: Homecoming' and more
In the spring of 2016, Holland made its debut as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War. Despite the limited time on the screen, he got strong criticism for his version of the iconic web slinger, ensuring a clearer way forward for his contributions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Holland continued to star in the dark drama Edge of Winter later that year, and the following spring, he excelled in the adventure film The Lost City of Z. However, his most anticipated performance of 2017 certainly came with the release of summer of Spider-Man: Homecoming, the first opportunity of the young actor to take a box office success. In 2018 he repeated his superhero role in Avengers: Infinity War.
Upcoming movies
Among his next projects, Holland will star in Chaos Walking, (a film adaptation of Patrick Ness' YA series), Spies in Disguise with Will Smith, and The Voyage of Doctor Dolittle.
Personal life
Holland has attended Donhead High School, Wimbledon College and the BRIT School of Performing Arts and Technology in England. His brother Harry followed him successfully in acting, and landed the role of Prince Harry of Wales for the 2013 drama, Diana.
Holland, an enthusiastic user of social networks, has attracted attention for publications that show his impressive acrobatic movements and boxing skills, as well as his pit bull, Tessa.
The first years and 'Billy Elliot'
Thomas Stanley Holland was born on June 1, 1996 in Kingston-upon-Thames, England. The eldest of four children was born into an artistic family: Mama Nicola is a photographer, and Papa Dominic is a comedian and author.
Holland began attending hip-hop dance classes at the dance studio Nifty Feet, whose owner, Lynne Page, helped choreograph the hit movie Billy Elliot (2000). After Holland's class was presented at the Richmond Dance Festival in 2006, Page was convinced to send her student to an audition for Billy Elliot the Musical.
Without formal training in ballet or drama, Holland did not impress most of the talent evaluators in the audition. However, it did impress Billy Elliot's director, Stephen Daldry, who loved Holland's natural ability and presence on stage.
After two years of ballet lessons, Holland debuted with the West End production in June 2008 as Billy's best friend, Michael. Soon he slipped into the lead role and captivated the au
