Finding your voice in Atlanta
Christopher Brian Bridges was born in Champaign, Illinois, on September 11, 1977, the only child of college students Roberta and Wayne. His parents separated when he was young, although he stayed close to both, and moved to Atlanta with his mother around age 12. He had been rapping since the age of nine, and before moving to Atlanta he was a member of a childhood group, the Hooligans of Loudmouth. The times were tough for teenagers Bridges and his mother, but he credits her with being strict with him to make sure he stayed in school and studied hard.
Ludacris had her first brush with stardom in 1998 with a guest verse on Timbaland's debut album - Tim's Bio: Life of Da Bassment - which rhymes in the song "Phat Rabbit". He was already recording his debut album, Incognegro, with the production of Jermaine Dupri, Bangladesh and Organized Noize, which he released independently on his own label Disturbing Tha Peace in May 2000. Much of the material on the album would be repackaged your main seal debut, Back for the First Time, after having signed with Def Jam South in 2000, including the hit single "What's Your Fantasy". The song was remixed for the new album, with additional guest verses by Trina and Foxy Brown, while the second single, produced by Neptunes and Pharrell with "Southern Hospitality," was another new addition. The album reached number 4 on the Billboard 200, selling more than 3 million copies. Rolling Stone detected Ludacris' animated rap style, calling it "that rare rapper brand that shows you their skills as much as it tells you about them".
'Word of Mouf' Spreads, Pepsi Controversy
Ludacris kept the burden in 2001 with his next album, Word of Mouf. His first single, "Rollout (My Business)", was nominated for a Grammy and was followed by three more singles. The collaborations with Nate Dogg and Twista made the album an animated subject that accumulated more than 3 million sales in the US alone. UU Critics again highlighted Ludacris' verbal prowess, and the Los Angeles Times praised him for "the laughter that comes, injecting a little humor into almost every line of the 19 songs."
Ludacris showed the artists signed with his DTP label in his Golden Grain compilation of 2002, including an unknown MC then, called Tity Boi, who later would seek the fame of 2 Chainz. Ludacris reached an advertising agreement with Pepsi at that time, which became a minor scandal when Fox News anchor Bill O'Reilly called for a boycott of the drink to choose someone to use obscene lyrics. Subsequently, Pepsi left Ludacris, but after the action of the Russell Simmons Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, the company finally agreed to make $ 3 million in donations to urban charities.
