Karen Gillan is an actress and former Scottish model, best known for playing the role of Amy Pond in the hit British science fiction television series Doctor Who.
Synopsis
Karen Gillan, actress and former model, was born in Inverness, Scotland, on November 28, 1987. She loved acting from the beginning and worked in several youth theater groups. He moved to London at age 18 to study at the theater school. Gillan was explored by a modeling agency before working as an actress. Her performance as a doctor's partner, Amy Pond, on the long-successful U.K. Doctor Who was a breakthrough in his career.

Early life
Born on November 28, 1987, in Inverness, Scotland, Karen Sheila Gillan (sometimes called Kaz) forged an early attachment to acting. Gillan, the only son of Father Raymond and his mother Marie, learned to play the piano at age 7 and loved to play. After participating in productions at the Charleston Academy, Gillan continued to perform at Telford College in Edinburgh and at the Performing Arts Studio Scotland, studying with renowned theater director Scott Johnston. Later he moved to London, at age 18, to study theater at the prestigious Academy of Theater Arts Italy Conti.

Due to her height (5'11 "), her appearance and her distinctive red hair, Gillan was recruited by a modeling agency before becoming a working actress. (Later she would play the role of British supermodel Jean Shrimpton in the film from BBC We 'll Take Manhattan (2012), which examined the icon's relationship with fashion photographer David Bailey, although she liked the parades and photo shoots, Gillan was always interested in pursuing her career as actor.

Career
Gillan's first roles came on television, including the sketch comedy The Kevin Bishop Show and The Well, a series of short horror films for the BBC. His first appearance on stage was in the work of John Osborne Inadmissible Evidence, which debuted at the venerable Donmar Warehouse in London in October 2011. He will also participate in the independent comedy film Not Another Happy Ending, directed by John McKay.

In May 2009, Gillan was chosen to play the coveted role of Amy Pond, the doctor's partner, in the hit British science fiction television series Doctor Who. The role was a breakthrough for the actress, taking her recognition factor to the next level. She and actor Matt Smith, who played the traveling doctor in time, quickly became the sexiest couple on British television. The two (who, they claim, never had romantic ties) achieved stardom and were attacked by fanatics in various parts of the world.

"When I got to the BBC for my first audition for Amy Pond, I was not even allowed to say that I was there for Doctor Who," Gillan told the U.K. Daily Mail. "I had to pretend it was for something called 'Panic Moon', which is an anagram of 'partner'." The chemistry between the two actors was key to its enormous popularity. Gillan played Amy Pond from 2010 to 2013.

After passing Doctor Who, Gillan proved his hand on television once again, this time on the American side, starring in the lead role in ABC's Selfie in 2014. But the series was never successful and was canceled after one season.

However, Gillan remained busy in a series of films: Not Another Happy Ending (2013), the horror film Oculus (2013) and Marvel Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). She also plans to be part of its sequel, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which will debut in 2017.

In July 2016, Deadline announced that the actress was hired to play the lead role in the upcoming independent drama, All Creatures Here Below. He will also appear in the science fiction drama, The Circle, starring opposite Tom Hanks and Emma Watson.
